4 TIPS FOR STYLING A FOOTBALL SHIRT

If you want to wear a football shirt stylishly then you have come to the right place. This guide will show you how to adopt a classic look with ease.

A football shirt is, obviously, all about representation. It’s a two-way street: it represents you, and you represent it. Unless it’s a punishment or you’re trying to blend in while sat in the away end, you don’t wear a football shirt of a team – or, at the very least, a design – you don’t like. The beauty of the game now is that it’s very easy to fall in love with teams from all over the world. While people have their firm favourites, through FIFAFootball Manager, and social media in general, fans are exposed to a wide variety of players, coaches, teams, and leagues.

Of course, football tends to be euro-centric: it’s where all the best players and, subsequently, the best teams are. The most supported teams are the ones you’re very likely to find Champions League odds for – unless, like Liverpool and Chelsea last season, you have a wobble and don’t qualify. However, won’t be a shock nowadays to see, say, an Inter Miami shirt with Messi #10 on the back, an Al Nassr shirt with Mané #10 on the back, a Nigeria home shirt, or a Fluminense shirt with Marcelo #12 on the back. Football fandom is truly international, with intent.

But to truly style a jersey, takes a little bit of know-how. Read on for more.

Choosing your Jersey

If you want to get the best result out of your football shirt then the first thing you have to do is decide on what club you want to support. If you are a supporter or if you are a lifelong fan then you can probably skip ahead here. If you don’t have a club or a national team then you need to sport something fashionable that reflects the look you are going for.  Ideally, you should buy a replica kit. A lot of people think that replica kits are fake but this is not the case at all. Replica kits are fully-sanctioned and they are also licensed. They cost a little more but they have a great fit and you are less likely to run into issues with comfort or tightness. They are easy to maintain and they can stand up to more washes too.

Pants and Shoes

A lot of people will tell you that you cannot wear your jersey with shorts or even jeans. The best thing you can do here is ignore people like that. It is more than possible for you to pull off both looks here. One good rule of thumb that you need to keep in mind when trying to dress your bottom half is to go for something that is rather muted. Some football jerseys are loud and very colourful. If you can find shorts that match your kit then this is great, but you do want the attention to be directed to your top half. Joggers

Joggers, if they are not overly baggy at the waist, are great. If you want, you can adopt this look as it is a great way for you to look somewhat athletic while maintaining that casual look. You have to remember though that when choosing joggers, that you have to make sure you give some consideration to your shoes. If you can do this then you will be able to bring your entire look together. If you have opted for black training sweatpants or grey joggers then this is great. Think about getting some vans or some sleek running shoes. If you can do this then you are bound to look fashionable in no time at all.

Headwear

If you want to spice up your outfit a little bit then another thing you can do is opt for some nice headwear. When you do this you will soon find that it is easier for you to tie your outfit together and that you can also feel confident in the style you are going for. A cap works well here, but with that in mind, it is helpful to adopt other forms of fashionable accessories as well. This could include a chain or a nice watch. Don’t overlook the power of beanies either. Beanie hats are ideal as they can help you to stay warm when the weather takes a turn. You may also find that you can wear your football shirt over a hoodie if you want. This allows you to wear your gear all year round. If you want to do something here then one thing you can do is try and buy a football shirt in the next size up, so you can make it fit you even when it’s been worn over other garments.
